PLACES AND FORMS OF POWER

I am going talk about « Places and forms of power ».

First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion : The power is the ability to control others, events or resources. The ability to make things happen despite obstacles, resistance, or opposition.

This year in class we studied several documents about this notion, and specially about discrimation of women in a male world.

In order to illustrate this notion I have chosen to answer this question :      

What solutions have been considered to reduce differences at work, where the power of men dominates?

First of all, I will make a finding of this discrimination: in all sectors of activity there is a pay gap. Then, the first document I have chosen is a news report about the gender pay gap at the city. In fact, there is a huge pay gap beetween men and women working in the finances and banking industries. Moreover, it is particulary important for bonuses distributed to employes. The reporter explains that this shocking information would be published the following day. To conclude, as far as I'm concerned, this situation is unimaginable. Indeed, womens should not be underpaid then men. Employers sould pay women and men the same, and respect the low.

Now, I would like to talk about solutions that had been envisaged. The second document I have chosen is audio and is named “Asking for a pay rise”. There are many ways to reduce the pay gap, women can request a pay rise in order to be on an equal footing with men. For example, a woman requested a 3% rise. She explains that she has been working in the company for 3 years. She has produced valuable work. Her position involves much responsibility. Her manager explain that he must discuss with the rest of management.

To conclude, women are faced with unwanted discrimination everyday of their lives, due to their gender, which they have no control over. However some solutions have been found and give confidence in a future where woman feel professionally recognized and in everyday life as a man. I think we must, as much man as woman, pushing all the women around us to pursue their dreams and above all to believe in them, it's the key to happiness.
