Minnesota

Dear Alissa,

I want to tell you something and I think that is the moment. So you know, I had to settle to Minnesota for six months with my family in order to work, it was such a dream to me, to move to America. We were really enthusiastic and thrilled. And guess what, the trip was paid by the railroad company for the entire family, it was awesome. On top of that, people told us that Minnesota was the "Promised Land" wih beautiful landscapes and mild weather, the perfect place to live.

People just lied to us. Minnesota is a harsh place, it is too dry with droughts, it is too windy, too cold, there are many hail storms and blizzards. Because of the weather, crops were destroyed or crops can not grow. And you can't imagine how many people die because they lacked food, or because of the cold.

In this place, you can travel only on carriages, horse-riding, by steam train or steam boat on rivers.

It is complicated to survive. Oh also, there are few cities and we rely on ourselves, we don't have the choice, that's the way we can survive.

Here, there is an ordinary person who's respected by everyone and this guy decides laws, it is totally weird, but why not?

People sold us a dream, but that's really the contrary. I had never believed that one day I could live this.

We live to survive, everyday I think I am going to die, it's not a life. I'm young, why am I living something so harsh ?

Set up in Minnesota was the worst exeperience ever. I don't understand why people told us the opposite about Minnesota. Promise me Alissa, you have to never go there, NEVER. Only if you want to be like me, super thin, with a pale face. I feel better when I write to you, I had to talk with someone, I think if I didn't write, I could just draw in my despair. I miss you so much sweet darling, I want to come back to you.

And you, take care of yourself and your family and appreciate every moment in this beautiful country that is England.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Love.

Mary Ann xx.
