What do you think about multiculturalism ?

Give your opinion in a paragraph (about 200 words)

If it cannot be denied that England is today a multicultural country in which diversity is at its peak, this diversity is the result of the large Empire it was until the 20th century and which was preserved with the Commonwealth.

Often referred to as the City of the World, England's capital city shed light on this diversity with more than 300 languages spoken there, and many communities from all over the world settled in various parts of London as the Bangladeshi community around Brick Lane.

This patchwork of different cultural or racial groups has many positive aspects. Indeed, many children grew up among other people from different nationalities, therefore they got used to this melting pot and mixity, promoting open-mindedness. Measures are taken to promote the integration of different communities, such as the establishment of quotas for various ethnicities within colleges. Moreover, this pluralism also significantly impacts the economy, which has been developed with multinational companies set up within Britain.

Nevertheless, reality doesn't always meet expectations. Indeed, even if this aspect is rarely put forward, people arriving in England are often in precarious situations despite the financial aid. Moreover, they have to adapt to the country’s culture and practices, which is sometimes the cause of tension. For example, some people affirm that multiculturalism increases the risk of threatening women's rights, which, in some cultures, is challenged by forced marriage. Furthermore, there is a risk of social conflict, due to reasons of culture, discrimination, injustice, inequality, and religious beliefs.

To conclude, I think we should always remember that the phenomenon of multiculturalism brings a myriad of positive aspects, however, we shouldn’t underestimate the importance of its negative aspects.
