The game beginning on Monday March the 1st. We are French student on a school trip at the Tower of London. We look the crown jewels but then we cannot find our teacher. The place is empty and Bing Ben strikes 5pm. A beefeater says there is no way back. A door closes behind us. We are trapped in the Tower.

The solution of the first riddle was Freedom. In this challenge we leant about the legend of the crows. The legend says that if the crows leave the Tower of London, the kingdom will fall. King Charles the second who lived in the 17th century believed of this legend and order to clip the crows wings so that they would not fly. In the History the tower had many roles; It was a prison, a royal palace, a military fortress, a menagerie and an armoury.

In the second challenge we leant the Imperial State Crown is worn by the monarch in the official ceremonies like the opening of the parliament and the Crown of saint Edwards is worn for the coronation ceremony. Elisabeth the second was the queen of England between 1952 and 2022. However Charles the third is the current British monarch.

In this challenge we leant about famous prisoners of the Tower like Anne Boleyn the Henry 8 second wife; guy Fawkes who tried to kill the King James 1 in 1605 in the famous Gunpowder plot and Lady Jane Grey. All there are executed in the Tower. Frier Gerrad is the only prisoner who ever escaped the tower, he use an invisible ink to warm his accomplices and was hale to escape.

Fairy tales establish by authors like the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson have shaped children’s literature for generation with stories such as Cinderella, Speeling Beauty and the Little Red Riding Hood. The fairy tales often begging with the classic “Once Upon a Time” and take place in a faraway kingdom long ago.
Typical characters include King, Queen, Prince, Princess, jealous princess … or monster. All deary divided into good or evil. Magical elements such as talking animals or enchanted objects are frequent. Often to proving his bravery, the hero take up challenge. Most tales end with “ They lived happily ever after” and convey a timeless lesson.

The document is an extract from the movie Shrek, released (to release = sortir/diffuser) in 2001. In that extract, the voice-over (voix-off) is reading a fairy tale from an old book. That story is that of a princess locked in a castle, guarded by a dragon. She’s under a spell that only true love’s first kiss can break (to break a spell = rompre un sortilège). Then Shrek, an ugly, green ogre, tears (to tear = déchirer) (tear-tore-torn) a page from the old book. The ogre here is the main protagonist and not the villain. That’s a reversal, a twist.

The little girl and the Wolf by James Thurber is a short parody of the traditional tale Little Red Riding Hood. The story tells a Wolf waits in a forest for a girl carrying food to her grandmother like the original. The sitting and events at first are quite similar but unlike in the original tale, the girl recognized the Wolf and takes an automatic out of her basket and shoots the wolf. There is a difference between the tale of the 20th century with Grimm and Perrault who stressed obedience and danger. Thurber humorously highlights the Independence and cleavers of modern girls.
