I. SUMMARIZE THE ARTICLE

This document is an article called "Emissions Declines Will Set Records This

Year. But It's Not Good News," written by Brad Plumer from The New York Times.

As the headline says, this article deals with the issue of declining emissions. It is

however said that this is not to be taken as good news because emissions will

increase once the crisis is over. In fact, countries are seeing an 8% drop in emissions,

and a very significant drop in oil consumption because people no longer have to

move around and therefore do not use cars or planes due to the containment

which affects 4 billion people. This is the biggest drop that the planet has ever seen.

At first glance, this seems to be a good news, but many experts warn that once the

crisis is over, the different emissions will increase more than they have decreased

during the crisis. And it is this very point that worries the experts a lot.

Nevertheless, some have put forward this drop in emissions in the hope that

ecological policies will be implemented to continue on the same path and the idea

that ecology must take precedence over the economy.

II. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION

The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon that causes a rise in

temperature on the surface of our planet. Essential to our survival, this fragile

balance is threatened. Human activities are affecting the chemical composition of

the atmosphere and causing the appearance of an additional greenhouse effect,

which is largely responsible for the current climate change. Indeed, the increase of

these greenhouse gases causes a warming of our planet, strongly impacting the ice

floes. The latter melt and thus reduce animal life. The main idea is therefore to

drastically reduce these gases to keep our planet at a reasonable temperature and

keep our different species alive. However, can there be negative impacts on the

reduction of greenhouse gases? And how would they affect the world community?

First we will see what the negative impacts could be, and secondly, what

consequences they will have on the world population.

The massive increase in greenhouse gases comes partly from factory production.

Therefore, to reduce them, production would have to be greatly reduced. We know

that doing that will result in a decrease in the quantity available on the market. As a

result, prices in general will rise, and this will lead to high inflation. On the other

hand, companies that produce less to reduce pollution will not need as many

workers as they used to. There will therefore be an increase in unemployment.

We also know that the various means of transportation are sources of pollution.
