The canada from the point of view of an immigrant

One week ago, I came to Toronto to meet with Flora. I asked her about life in Canada.

Firstly, I wanted to know when and how she settled  in Canada.

(flora)- “ I came to Canada when I was just a little girl. My parents fled our home country, Afghanistan as a result of the war. It was really hard to run away but we did it ! My parents and I take a bus then a boat to arrive in this miraculous country.”

Additionally, I asked her what she was thinking about Canada when she arrived.

(Flora) - “ Immediately, I was crazy about this country, the landscape as much as the inhabitants. There were frozen lakes where I could skate and a lot of snow. We had so much fun! There were also a lot of animals that I had never known like beavers.

We were living in the wilderness. This country was really open minded and peaceful. The Canada was welcoming us with open arms. We were never discriminated against. Indeed, this country is multicultural.

  • “ Do you still think this about Canada after all these years ?”

(Flora) - “ Of course I do! Everybody is always respectful and welcoming with everyone and the landscape is still as beautiful as years ago despite global warming.”

  • “Why is this country so welcoming?”

(Flora) -  For the reason that he was created by multiculturalism. In fact, Canada is a union between French and english. Multiculturalism is in our roots.

This country is very progressive, all the main political parties are pro-immigration. The principle of multiculturalism further is in our constitution but also in the Charter of rights and freedoms.

Finally, this land is also progressive from gay marriage point. He was one of the first countries to legalize it.”

Lastly, After this interview, I understand that being Canadian is more than just being an inhabitant, it’s a veritable duty and a real lesson about tolerance.
