Sheryl Sandberg

I’m going to talk about Sheryl Sandberg one of the most powerful women in the world. Let’s begin with the beginning, daughter of an ophthalmologist and teacher, Sheryl was born in Washington DC in 1969. She had a peaceful childhood at North Miami Beach. Then, she went to Harvard for her Bachelor’s degree in economics and worked in the US department of the Treasury during the Clinton administration.

With her government job behind her, Sandberg moved to Silicon Valley to join Google. She then moved to Facebook, where she has been COO since 2008. From that moment, she began to take an interest about women within companies. Indeed, she denounced the role that economic inequality plays in spousal abuse and founded a group called “Women in Economics and Government”, which, she says, was created “to get more women to in government and economics”.

Moreover, she wrote a bestseller “Lean In: Women, work, and the Will to lead” which has been sold more than a million copies. Her book inspired herself to found Leaning.(dot)org, which is a nonprofit organization to support women to achieve their ambitions.

It seems to me that this lady is a model for many teenagers because she accomplished great things especially in business. Furthermore, she is conscious there are inequality between genders at job. That’s why she is involved in this struggle. In fact, she organizes speeches at school to motivate young girls to have personal ambitions.

For instance, she gave a TED speech titled “why we have too few women leaders” which has been watched more than 2 million times on Youtube.  She became one of the richest women in the world and nevertheless she decided to give the half of her wealth to promote the feminine cause as much as possible.

She is an example because if each and every rich people would have the same behavior, the world could be better. This lady is very interesting because she has a real willpower to change things for women in our society specifically in companies and I think it’s rare.

That’s why I decided to choose this woman for all actions she performs against inequality and for gender balance.
