SUBJECT: APPLE:

INTRODUCTION:

  • Context: In history, many revolutions have changed the world, more recently oil revolution and digital revolution are changing our opinion of distance.
  • Presentation of the document:

This document is an article taken from “The Guardian (a British newspaper which was founded in 1821 as “The Manchester Guardian”), it was published on the 5th Of August 2018. Here, it deals with the digital revolution with the example of Apple, it also deals with the oil business and the oil revolution, by using the example of transports.

Synthesis:

This document shows the evidence that Apple is an impressive company, and it is showed by the fact that it’s the first company that is not in the oil business to be valued at more than 3 billion dollars on the New York stock exchange.

In fact, Apple has been a major actor of the digital revolution, thanks to the invention of the smartphone.

This notion of revolution is also used in the oil business, with this example of transports (had a huge impact during wars, has changed the notion of distance). These two revolutions (Oil and Digital) have a huge impact on our planet, it can be environmental in what concerns the oil revolution, and the pollution of our society (constant state of distraction) in what concerns the digital revolution. This article aims at showing that the digital revolution will have a less important impact than the oil one.

  • Problem raised:

Are we able to control all these revolutions?

  • Plan:

1/ Revolutions have changed the notion of distance

2/ The negative impact of such revolution

  1. Revolutions have changed the notion of distance
  • Apple is a major actor of the digital revolution; we can affirm that because Apple is the creator of smartphones and it is considered as the biggest digital invention.
  • Digitalization has totally changed the notion of distance, in fact, the invention of smartphones has increased the capacity to communicate, with everyone all around the world.
  • It links territories between each other.
  • Oil business has also changed the notion of distance thanks to transports. In fact, thanks to the creation of planes, cars, trains, boats, etc.… everything seems to be clothe, and it gives us the feeling that there has been a reduction of the physical world (the notion of time in transport is really important).

To conclude, these two revolutions have impacted the social and the physical distance, in a positive way, however, it has impacted our planet in negative way that we’ll see in my second part.

  1. The negative impacts of these revolutions:
  • Digitalization has impacted our society in a negative way.
  • It has reduced the concentration of workers, students, etc. because of smartphones, laptop, etc.…
  • Digitalization has also impacted our private life. Social medias are the main reason of this lack of privacy.
  • Digital revolution pollutes our society, but also our environment, in fact, every single single mail pollutes our planet.
  • Oil revolution has had a terrible impact on our environment, oil is a really polluting resource and we are using it in a lot of different ways.

To conclude, digitalization is a really important revolution, that has changed a lot of things in our society. However, it has many negative impacts on our environment and on our way of living. In my opinion, we couldn’t live without new technologies in our actual society. However, I don’t think that we are able to control it for the moment because it has to many negative impacts but in the next years if we can reduce the number of negative impacts, we may be able to control it.
