Angry Brides’ Takes on India’s Dowry Culture

Here are the tragic consequences of the dowry system that are in the text:

- Any personn woh demands a dowry faces up tot two years in prison

- 47% of men interviewed expcepted gifts from the bride’s family

- Many women in India are killed or take their lives every year over their family’s failure to pay a promised dowry

- (According to Amnesty International) Every year, thousands of Indian women are tortured, beaten to death or burned alive by their husbands or family members if the dowry proves insufficient or unpaid.

- Dowry death in India;

- They estimate that 98 women are killed each week by their husband or his family, most often as a result of a dispute over dowry.

Not everybody in india approve this initiative, because it encourages the fact that the dowry is higher.

Personally I don’t think that solving this problem with this "innovative and fun way" is the right way because, it is a big problem, it does not do it in any way. Maybe make documentaries on TV, show that the dowry system is complicated, and that it can be difficult for some families because there are a lot of very, very, very poor people in India so that they realize it, to demonstrate for the Indian government in a more effective way by increasing women’s rights in India, men and women are equal before the law, men are punished
