Hotel environment : Assignment N°1

 I will focus on three hotel chains situated respectively in North America, in Europe and then in Asia.

First the prestigious brand, Hilton hotels & resorts is one of the largest and respected hotel brands in the whole world. It has been founded in 1919 by Conrad Hilton. This brand fits perfectly for business and leisure travelers. Usually, it is situated in many city centers, nearby a lot of services such as airports, station. They aim to be the most hospitable company in the world ; they want to create incredible experiences for guests, great opportunities for Team members and high value for owners. Conrad thinks that staying inspired is important and that it is a daily journey so he decided to create relax space, place to be energized. These hotels have places where we can connect with other guests and also the world. This is the philosophy of the brand. The main mission of the brand is to be the first choice of the world’s travelers.

Then the European hotel chain Barceló hotels & resorts has been founded 85 years ago in Palma de Mallorca by Simon Barceló. This brand has more than 230 hotels in 20 countries. This hotel chain is the third largest in Spain. The group contains 4 brands : Royal Hideaway Luxury hotels & Resorts, Barceló Hotels & Resorts, Occidental Hotels & Resorts and Allegro Hotels. The brand offers to the customers a different way of stay because they suggest new experiences that guests are looking for and they propose new concepts trough creativity and innovation. They manage to leave a deep mark by anticipating the desires of their guests.  They aim is to make life easier and pleasant for the guests. The staff takes care of their guests by putting itself in their position and they are careful to each detail. The Barceló Hotel group looks for helping the well-being and social, economic and political development in each countries where it is etablished.

Moreover Shangri-la hotels and resorts is based in Hong Kong and has been created in 1971 (by Robert Kuok) with the first deluxe hotel in Singapore. Shangri-la hotels are five-star luxury hotels and it is the most important luxury hotel chain in Asia. Shangri-la has 5 brands : Shangri-la hotels, Shangri-la resorts, Traders hotels, Kerry hotels and Hotel Jen. The group also owns 2 clubs in China. We can find these kinds of lodgings across Asia, the middle east, Canada, Oceania and Europe, North America. The architecture of Shangri-La’s brand suits perfectly with all type of travelers : business travelers, couples, family, individuals. The brand is characterized by the serenity and service they offer to the guests. The communication strategy of the brand is to use campaign advertising (on TV, in the internet). They work with the quote « treat your employees exactly as you want them to treat your best customers », they use this principle actively.

As a conclusion, I choose these three hotel chains because they have in common the quality of the service they want to provide to the guests. Each chain hotel has its own philosophy of hospitality but each one of them wants to give to the guests an incredible experience in their hotel as much as possible. Like Joan D Chittister said « Hospitality is the key to new ideas, new friends, new possibilities. What we take into our lives changes us. Without new people and new ideas, we are imprisoned inside ourselves. »
