The mecanical solidarity is mainly present in the « traditional » society .Today this type of solidarity is mainly gone and have been replaced by the organic one because of the labour division . but some still exist and this is how they used and are still workin for the individuals and groups under this type of solidarity

In the mecanicals solidarity , the individuals are very similar ( durkheim says their interchangable) . In fact they have frequently the same work , statut, religion. The individuals in the mechanicals solidarity have an strong sens of community, they know theire part of an group and they claim it strong. An other think that makes the individuals in the mecanical solidarity interchangable is that they are very polyvalent, indeed there is no work division so every one have to know how to do everythingh that he need to live ( hunt, cook,grow plants )  . In the mecanical society the individuals are very mobile , they often change the location were they live .

In the mecanicals socity the groups are very weld with a strong colective concsience . Indeed the pressure of a groupe (familly, work) is very important for differents reasons : for example the individuals are similar , so they  are very close to each other and didnt want to be expeld of the groupe because they misbehaved . the groups were also very religious witch have to effect to strenght the colective pressure .Also in the groups of mecanical solidarity , the justice was mainly repressive ( kill or injure people that miss behaved ) so the the pressure of the group to not was very high. Most of the time the grouos in mecanicals socity dosent have a monetary système ( more true back in time than in the actual mecanical solidarity) they mostly work by barter.In the mecanical solidarity groups , most of the time there is no leader the power is equal to all the members . To finish these groups are most of the time of small size , a big mecanical solidarity group is rare .

Today there are a few mecanichal solidarity working society such as Bretagne and corse for French examples
