Many science fiction authors have foreseen a future in which machines or computers become “smarter” than humans, and enslave or exterminate them. They imagine futuristic machines as “superior” beings, and somehow this would turn mankind unnecessary. And then will men, have to wage war on machines ?

In the middle of the twentieth century, when electronic computers were beginning to be built, people had the impression that they could soon make machines which would perform several tasks that were boring, but also others which required lots of intellectual effort for humans. It was easy to get excited and suppose that machines would be doing everything we did. But unfortunately , as researchers kept on trying to build machines “intelligent” enough to be “better than humans”, they realized that this was not an achievable task.

Of course , computers can defeat humans in several tasks. And not only chess! Mainly these involve complicated mathematical operations for example . Nevertheless, we can say that we beat them in much more: as far as survival, nourishing, reproduction, adaptation, interacting with an unpredictable environment are concerned. These are things which are very hard to program. Moreover , human beings, unlike computers, are much more than a simple metallic assembly of chips , processors and so on. We have some powers we are not close to be neither understood, nor replicated. We are simply able de create, we have feelings and emotions, simple things that make mankind superior to machines. Furthermore, human are the creator, they have imagined and concretized machines, they have been able to control them so far : they are an extension of our mind, and their purpose is to help the human . Why would it rebel against him?

All things considered, rather than humans or machines eliminating one another, it seems that the tendency is towards merging with each other. If we just look around, we will see computers, mobile phones, and all kind of devices, helping us in being smarter. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t believe machines will take over the world.
