Mozart’s compositions in 2016: much more than 18th century music

In 2016, there is a popular belief that classical music is gone with their composers and that nothing is more boring than hearing classical music – there is no lyric! Classical composers are underrated by the modern society. However, many classical compositions are still used these days. In fact, Mozart is one of those whom compositions are still used in politics and in sciences through propaganda and music therapy many times for different purpose.

Through political history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had been used a lot. Before and during the Second World War, Nazis used a lot of Mozart’s life aspects for the benefits of their propaganda. His “blood heritage” was mainly used to demonstrate that his creativity was determined by his blood. They used the fact that is father was born in Augsburg, a German city, and his mother was born from a union of a Salzburgian and a Bavarian, both German regions to justify his “blood heritage”. David B. Dennis said that Nazis often said that “Salzburg belongs to Mozart as much as Mozart belongs to Salzburg”: “blood works along with his Salzburg heritage.” They also qualified Mozart as the ultimate “heroic-demonic fighter” and a composer much better than Italians. Also, his musical genius, assuming to Nazis, came from God himself and not of intellectual reflection. They also said that the National Opera was infested by Italian operas and Mozart’s task was to substitute them by amazing German operas that are close to traditions. The first composition he did for the opera was Die Entführung aus dem Serail which beat the Italian operas according to Nazis. This was the way Nazis manipulated Germans with their propaganda. (Dennis, p. 286-266)

Also, Arnold Whittal wrote a paper about Erik Levi’s Mozart and the Nazis: How the Third Reich abused of a cultural icon where he said that Ludwing Werba wrote once that “you [Mozart] and Germany are perfection, and they will exist as long as, by the will of God, a sun shines upon this Earth” in Wiener Figaro. This means that Germany is another Eden created by God and perfect human is living there. For them, Mozart is so perfect that there is a “holy surroundings” where the composer was born. Peter Raabe declared in 1941 that Germans are blessed because of musical talents and had the strength and all other qualities to handle events imposed by fate. They really thought that God was watching after them and that is why they used composers to invite other Germans in their movement to join them to become Nazis. Of course, Nazis are not the only ones that used Mozart. (Whittal, p.109 and 111)

These days, many studies on Mozart’s music had been made by scientists. A study demonstrated that many neurotransmitters and biochemical messengers interpreted “perceptual and emotional processing of music of the brain”. When music plays, dopamine (pleasure) is released by brain, and endorphins − which relief pain − and endocannabinoids (coordinate how a person feels, behave and reacts) in blood. It also produces oxide nitric – which is chemical formula is NO (N for nitrogen and O for oxygen − that dilate blood vessel, warm locally the skin, diminish blood pressure, and stimulates body’s immunity to fight against virus. Classical music also reduces stress and pain caused by neurological, oncological, and psychiatric surgeries. This study suggests than it can improve motor, emotional and action functions for patients with Parkinson when used as therapy. In psychiatry, music helps to make evolved relationships of people with mental sickness. Per example, music therapy combined to traditional care can help patients with schizophrenia. (Boso, p. 189-190) Also, combined with nature sounds, it helps to reduce stress and pain during surgeries, and decrease blood pressure after four days of sessions. For example, before session one of the first day both music and control group had a pain score of three. On the fourth day, patients of the control group felt a pain score of 3.5 while the music group claimed a pain of a little less than 1.5. (Cutshall, p. 16-19) In another study, the scientists showed that epileptics who listen to Mozart K.448 and K.545 reduced epileptic crisis significantly. (Lung-Chang, p.3)

Moreover, classical music enhances the concentration and performances standards of students with light intellectual inability. Certainly, many scientists like David Aldridge who declares that music stimulates body’s coordination by imitating its functions, altering intellectual disability. Of course, it can be correlated to genetic factors or heredity, like autism, Down syndrome (commonly called trisomy 21) and Prader-Willi syndrome (Coyle, p. 6). According to Genetics Home Reference, Prader-Willi
