For american citizens, guns are important because they symbolize justice, strength and security. In addition, the US constitution allows people to carry a gun thanks to the 2nd amendment.

So America has a history of conquest, of struggle and the myth of the frontier is still alive in people's minds. The ideal American is brave, strong and the notion of the individual responsibility in society is very present and crucial. The right to defend oneself is guaranted in the constitution.

In the 19Th century, pioneers went West to settle uncivilized and wild regions. They faced danger: which were indians and bandits. So they needed guns. It's part of the american frontier tradition.

Therefore, guns are important in America as they enable people to protect themselves and feel safe.

Nowadays, for many people, having a gun makes them feel more powerful, to have power because everyone is afraid of firearms and nobody wants to die.

Even if the law prohibits the carrying of weapons, criminals will always be armed.

If the victims were also armed as the aggressors are, there would be fewer criminals.

The weapons are the greatest equalizer between the strong and the weak!

AGAINST

Bearing a gun is a way to protect oneself. . But you have to use it wisely.

We have seen armed teenagers attacking schools in the USA

Bearing a gun requires learning. A gun should be used to defend oneself in case of self-defense but never used to kill.

More than 11 000 people are killed by gunfire every year. The arms problem is very unstable and the Americans fear. For example, since September 11, 2001 the sale of weapons has increased by 70%, and sales of over 140% ammunition.

Approximately 310 million firearms are in circulation in the United States.

In April, James Holmes, a young man of 22, had killed twelve people in a Colorado cinema during a screening of the film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

On 14 December, Adam Lanza, 20 years old, broke into a primary school in Newtown shooting at students and adults present. The shooting resulted in 27 deaths, including 20 children.

Moreover, these shootings are often perpetrated by young people themselves, often wrong to be. Given that young people do not have free access to weapons in most other countries, the risks are lower to see students attack their own institution.
