Assignment 3: Are you a Grammar Wizard?

  1. Correct the following sentences. Cross out what is wrong and write the correct equivalent. There is one mistake per sentence. There is no need to rewrite the whole sentence.

Example: My father take the bus to work every day. 🡺 My father take TAKES the bus to work every day.

  1. Barbara is an 8-year-old girl who felt off her horse a month ago and broke her shoulder.
  2. All day long the BBC keeps abreast of current events: the news are available day and night on its news website.
  3. You don’t need glasses now, but you may need them when you will be older.
  4. He said he’d noticed the bed bugs in his bedroom just one day after his wife had bought a new jeans for him, so the bed bugs might have been hiding in the jeans.
  5. There isn’t enough wind on this beach, which is why you won’t see much windsurfers.
  6. In the past few years, Europe has become a global player whose the voice is heard on every continent.
  7. I have visited London two years ago, and I’m looking forward to visiting it again.
  8. If you told me earlier, I could have prevented the situation from deteriorating.
  9. Malaria features among the three first causes of mortality for people of all ages.
  10. The aim of the rehabilitation programme is to change the offender’s behaviour, so as to avoid to harm others.

  1. Rewrite the sentences below, using the word(s) in brackets, so that the second sentence is similar in meaning to the first. Do not change the word(s) in brackets!
