A DEADLY INDIFFERENCE – SUMMARY

CHAP.1: REMAINS TO BE SEEN

Henry spearman and his wife are going to Cambridge (UK). They had stopped by the university college in London, in order to see Bentham’s corpse (remains) that is in display over there. There, they had met Ardis Horne & Graham Carlton who came by to visit the auto-icon too. The four of them are discussing the use of such a display. Henry looks very excited by this while Pidge and the other two are more perplex.

CHAP.2: TRAIN TO CAMBRIDGE

Henry and Pidge are now on their way to Cambridge. They had taken the train from London (Liverpool Street Station) and are heading to Cambridge. Henry had scheduled their stay (from their arrival at 10 to Tuesday perhaps the day of their departure if everything goes well and they end up having the house). In fact, Henry was in charge of buying a house for the foundation. He had refused first but then accepted since Pidge had convinced him that they will be able to visit King’s college Chapel, the Bridge of sighs, and that they could see Jared Mcdonald (an old friend of Henry). Henry and Pidge had a peculiar relationship based on economical principles. Them being in love is what Henry calls “interdependent utility function”.

CHAP.3: PUNTING ON THE CAM:

Moris Fain is a friend of Henry. We’ve learned on the chap.2 that he and Henry are going to meet with Duncan Thring in order to purchase a house. Moris Fain had been stationed in Cambridge, during the war. In this chap he arrived at the hotel way before the spearman and checked in, after he had left a note for the couple. Moris Fain believe that British people are more courteous than American and that they do have a better sense of service. After a short nap, he had decided to visit the city. In fact, before his meeting he believes that punting on the Cam could be amusing. He hired a chauffeur and rented a boat and went on punting. His chauffeur’s name is Steve Pipes. Their discussion lets us to know that Pipes leaves in Grantchester, while fain had lived in the Midwest and had studied at the University of Minesota.

CHAP. 4: BREAKFAST WITH MRS. SALTMARSH

Mrs Saltmarsh is a lady that rent rooms to students, Steve Pipes, and Dolores Tanner. Steve Pipes is having breakfast and telling Mrs Saltmarsh about what happened earlier. Indeed, there was an incident the day before while he was punting on the Cam. Someone had thrown something in his punt while he was talking to Morris Fain his client.

CHAP. 5: BALLIOL CROFT:

Henry, Pidge and Fain meet here with Duncan Thring the current owner of Balliol Croft. They are there to visit A. Marhsall’s former house, in order to purchase it for the foundation. The house had been named Balliol Croft after the college Balliol. Thring spent some time explaining to the couple and Fain how living at AMarhsall’s looks like: receiving letters from fans, people walking around the property as if it was a museum…. The house was his home while his wife was alive but now that she’s dead it had become bigger for him.

CHAP. 6: THE HUMPTY DUMPTY THEOREM:

In this chap Henry is giving a lecture in the Darwin Theatre. He insists on the future
