India or Switzerland?

India is today a newly industrialized country but it remains a country of contradictions.

Switzerland is a country located in Central Europe, east of France and north of Italy. It is a small country of about 8 million inhabitants.

India is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Burma and Pakistan. It is the second most populous country with over a billion people and the seventh largest in the world.

The country was annexed by the British East India Company before coming under the control of the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century. It became independent in 1947 after a year marked by the resistance of Mahatma Gandhi. Since 1950 it is a federal parliamentary republic considered the most populous democracy in the world.

Whereas Switzerland has its independence since 1291. It is considered as a confederation similar in structure to a federal republic. The country has a long tradition of political and military neutrality and home to many international organizations.

Inequalities between men and women are reduced by more than two countries but there is always a delay. The percentage of Women in Parliament is 27.2% in Switzerland and 9.2% in India.

The Indian subcontinent has been present on the trade routes since antiquity added to its geographical location; these conditions are favorable for trade. Indeed, the country is specialized in the export of petroleum products, textile goods, gems and jewelry, engineering goods, chemicals and leather manufactures. Indian cinema is also considered as the most important film in the world.

Switzerland for its exports its expertise in watches, metals, agricultural products and products of the chemical industry and machinery.

This provides the two countries with GDP per capita of 1400$ and 80,000$ in December 2013 according to the IMF. The difference is important. India suffered its past and developmental delay, lack of infrastructure and measures.

India is a home to one of the oldest civilizations of the world. This is the land of birth of four major religions (Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism), while Christianity and Islam are located. Many languages are spoken such as Hindi, Bengali, Telugu or Marathi. This is a very diverse country on the ethnic, linguistic and religious terms.

Switzerland recognizes four cultural variations based on the four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh.

However there are many differences in development between the two countries. India's Human Development Index is only 0.609 while it is 0.955 in Switzerland. This makes it possible a 99% of the population being literate in Switzerland when she was only 61% in India.

Advances in Switzerland allow people to live up to 82 years on average in contrast to India, where life expectancy is 67 years.

I prefer Switzerland because it is a pleasant society.

Indeed, discipline and sense of cleanliness of the Swiss are always impressive. They are the best watch manufacturers in the world, making them always very punctual. They never arrive late for an appointment. Courtesy and respect are always mandatory.
