Déroulement de la guerre du vietnam

The beginning of the Vietnam War is declared after the accident of the Gulf of Tonkin where a U.S. destroyer was attacked by North Vietnamese. This accident hires a massive military bombing by the U.S.A against the North Vietnamese. It’s a flood of bombs. More bombs was decharged than in Europe during the World War 2 . (64)

Three years later, in 1968, the Americans had 500,000 men on the spot with an enormous firepower. They were supported by the South Vietnamese army. The funding, economic and military paid by the United States was considerable and to force the communists to stop the struggle, all ways were good: intensive bombing , use of napalm, research and elimination of communists people, destruction of the jungle. And the consequences caused by the U.S. are huge. But

In March ninety sixty eight, stop the bombing of the North. From there, serious negotiations to end the war began. They last four years, during which fighting continued in the south. Meanwhile, President Nixon began gradually to withdraw his troops in the north.

In January 1973 the negotiations end up to a peace plan named the Paris agreements.

Les Accords de Paix de Paris de 1973 sont des accords d'armistice signés le 27 janvier 1973 à Paris pour mettre fin à la guerre du Viêt Nam. Ils ont été conclus entre les États-Unis et laRépublique démocratique du Viêt Nam (Nord Viêt Nam), la République du Viêt Nam (Sud Viêt Nam) et le Gouvernement révolutionnaire provisoire de la République du Sud Viêt Nam formé par leFront national de libération (Viêt Cong).

Despite this agreements, fighting between the South Vietnamese and Communists continued. South Vietnam had requested the assistance of the USA, but Congress rejected the request! Without help, the South Vietnamese resistance collapsed and the north took Saigon on April ninety seventy five. Vietnam was officially reunited a year after, Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honor of that we consider today as the Hero of Vietnam. Hanoi became the only capital. This is the end of the Vietnam War, which lasted more than 20 years.
