NEW YORK CITY

New York is the main town of the United States situated on the east coast. Where live than eight million of inhabitants. Inside NY, we can find five districts : the Bronx, Manhattan, the Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Its nickname is « the big apple » or “the city that never sleeps”.

DEMOGRAPHY

New York is the most populated town of the USA. Its population represents forty percent of the inhabitants of the state of New York.

It has known a development of trade and industry thanks to the arriving of million of immigrants which caused a demographic increase.

New York is one of the most cosmopolitan city of the world.

Now, I will you introduce 2 monuments :

-The Apollo Theater is a famous Harlem neighborhood theater. He represent a symbol of the rise of black music in the United States. For many artists, it represents a potential springboard to recognition.

It was open by a general of the Civil War. The Apollo move out in 1913 to another place owned by Jewish families. It was then reserved for whites. He found another public during the begining of jazz in Harlem.

-The Statue of Liberty, the symbol of New York is the first thing that have seen thousands of immigrants in the United States, arriving by boat. In her right hand she holds a torch that symbolizes a guide for humanity. Her left hand holds a plate representing the declaration of independence.

The monument is 46 meters height and was seetled in the Liberty Island.You will find a museum about the statue in it’s base.

The statue is in front of the ocean. It was offered to the United States by France in 1886. It was a token of friendship between the two countries on the occasion of Independence centenary.
