“Brave Blue world and Planet of the Humans analysis “

In class with had the chance to watch these two documentaries that are total opposites in my opinion.

“Planet of The Humans”.

This documentary is a 2019 American environmental documentary written, directed, and produced by Jeff Gibbs. The documentary was executively produced by Michael Moore. The tone used here is negative and pessimistic, it presents bleak picture of the current state of the world and the failures of various industries and systems. It examines the decision of environmental groups and leaders to partner with billionaires, corporations, and wealthy family foundations in the fight to save a planet said to be in crisis. The purpose here is to question whether renewable energy sources such as biomass energy, wind power, and solar energy are as clean and renewable as they are portrayed to be. It also critiques the renewable energy industry. The documentary is critical, it suggests that environmental movement has become too focused on technology and that the solutions it proposes are not effective in addressing the environmental degradation. They’re using footage from news and promotional materials to captivate and chock the public; they often use these materials out of context. “Planet of the Humans” has received mixed reviews, with some criticizing that it’s misleading content and totally inaccurate. In my opinion, this documentary was long, it was only 2 hours long, but it felt like forever. It was also hard to understand everything and follow everything that was said, they’re talking about so many different things, it goes too far in its criticism and doesn't present a realistic alternative for instance it was confusing for me and not pleasing to watch.

“Brave Blue World”

"Brave Blue World" is a documentary that was directed by Tim Neeves and produced by Paul O'Callaghan and Diana Vesga, it was initially released in 2020. It explores the global water crisis and presents innovative technologies and solutions for a sustainable water future. The tone used in this documentary is different from planet of the humans, the tone is positive and hopeful, they’re presenting solutions and innovations that are currently being developed it gives us hope and make us want to watch and listen what they’re talking about. In the first documentary that we watched we saw that the purpose was to critique the environmental movements and the solutions they’re coming with. However, “Brave blue world "aims to educate viewers on the global water crisis and present innovative technologies and solutions that can helps us. The purpose of those two documentaries is totally different. The technique used by the producers is a mix of interviews and animations and real-life examples to present the current state of water again it totally differs from “planet of humans” that has a pessimistic approach and relies on promotional materials. The reception that the documentary had received is generally positive reviews while the pessimistic documentary had received almost only bad reviews. It shows us that people prefer to watch more optimistic documentaries that are showing to us solutions to our problems and helping us understanding what’s happening without freaking us out. This documentary in my opinion was interesting and captivating, it is well made and informative it gives us hope for the future.
