Beauty pageant for children is typically American. In the three pictures, we see a caricature of young girls competing for a beauty pageant in LA. Those young girls are dressed as princesses with outrageous make up, which is just ridiculous. It is exactly the case in the film “Little mish Sunshine”. We can understand that many of these children are often pushed by their parents to practice sport or compete in other activities. Of course, being physically attractive and good looking can help a lot to gain self confidence but these young ladies can also be hurt if they lose the contest and they may suffer for the rest of their life.

I don’t find any positive aspect for the kids or their family apart from the pride to win. I believe competition is a good spirit enables us to improve ourselves but when it comes to beauty I find it useless.

Culture is different in the US where competing is very important since a young age and it continues at the university while in France is it not frequent. Children concentrate on their studies and practice sports but beauty pageant are not usual.

We have “Miss France” competition but it is for eldest girls and they decide themselves if they want to compete without pressure of their parents. Nevertheless, up to now we used to think that the Miss France are beautiful but not intelligent but it is changing. Most of them are studying such as the winner from last year who is studying medicines.

As a conclusion I agree with the proverb “beauty is skin deep” because I think each of us can be beautiful, if not physically by the way they behave. And after all, beauty is so subjective that we can always be ugly or beautiful for someone….(300words)
