Nowadays, french companies employ many immigrant workers coming from Africa and from the Eastern Europe. French analysts determine several advantages and drawbacks of immigrant workforce for the French economy. In this paper, we are going to develop each point of view.

French companies recruit foreigners in order to have cheaper labour. Cheap labour costs are beneficial for the employer and for consumers too thanks to price decreases. A country that has access to abundant cheap labor will not invest in expensive technologies. Furthermore, the presence of immigrants increases the consumption in France, which is good for the French economy. Immigrant workforce shows us many advantages for the French economy in short term.

In long term, Foreign workers bring bad consequences for the labor market. France already has a high unemployment rate, the presence of immigrant workers makes things worse, it increases the labour demand wich is already significantly higher than the offer. This may also affect wages of native workers who are in competition with immigrants. The unemployment rate will raise because companies prefer cheaper labour costs, and native workers will be tired of the economic crisis. This is one reason of discrimination towards immigrants.

Immigrant workforce is very beneficial for the French Economy in short term, but it brings bad consequences in long term.
