JAMAICA

Jamaica in an Island situates in the Carribbean, in the west Indies. Its capital is Kingston. Thera are high Blue Montains. The climate is tropical. Jamaica is a poor countrie. Thare are many slums and there is no electricity or water. The shanty towns are controlled by drug gangs. In jamaica there is many violence, it's the highest murdr rate in the Caribbean. But there are many rich people too: cinema and music stars.

In Jamaica the official language is English, but jamaicans speak patois. Patois is a mix of African languages, Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, a lot of people speak patois.

In Jamaica there are two special religion: Rastafarianism ans pocomania.

The rastafari mvement, whose culture was a key element in the development of reggae, this movement is influenced by Ethiopian Copic culture. Rasta culture is a whole formed by the aggregation of a number of beliefs, customs ans tradtions. Te wearing of dreadlocks characterizes the Rastafarian beliefs.

Pocomania is Afro-Jamaican cults descended from surviving forms of African religion mixed with Protestant elements from the time of the Great Revival in Jamaica in 1860-1862.

In Jamaica, the most popular music is reggae; it's a mix of Calypso with American rythm'n blues.

Bob Marley is a « King of Music » in Jamaica. It was the first to sing in the Third World. Bob Marley was z Rastafarian. In 1976 , there are an attempt murder in his house. He died of cancer in 1981. After that, his house becomes a museum. His face is everywhere, on the walls, posters and t-shirts.
