INTRODUCTION

Today, we will talk about comic books more specially during the thirties.

Comic Book were invented in the 1930s at the time of the great economic depression in America. People needed a means of escape from their own difficult and ordinary lives by imagining a character who could do superhuman performance.

DINComic book is a magazine made up of comics, narrative artwork in the form of separate panels that represent individual scenes, often accompanied by dialog (usually in word balloons) as well as including brief descriptive prose.

Where did the word « comic books » come from? The term "comic book" arose because the first comic books reprinted humor comic strips. Despite their name, however, comic books do not necessarily operate in humorous mode; most modern comic books tell stories in a variety of genres. Around 1900, the terms "comics" and "comic strip" came into common use in the United States. The strips of pictures being printed in magazines and newspapers at that time were all funny or comic. At first newspaper comic strips were called "the funnies" in 1934 and later the term comics became more popular. Early American comic books were often collections of reprints of newspaper comic strips.

There are different period of comic books which correspond with chronological period and sales. We have Golden age, silver age, modern age .. ( mettre une fleche chronologique sur ppt). And today we are going to talk about the first and the most important period : the golden age.
