A. Qu’est-ce que ces noms ont en commun ?

evidence (des preuves), lightning (des éclairs), thunder, soap, accommodation, music,
scenery, damage, weather, courage, French, travel, bread, draughts (jeu de dames),
dominoes, darts, mumps (oreillons), measles (rougeole), shingles (zona).
Correction :
Ce sont des indénombrables singuliers. Ils sont donc toujours suivis du singulier :

Have you ever had mumps? Yes I had IT when I was 6.

piece of :
A piece of toast, a piece of advice, a flash of lightning, a bar of soap, etc.
B. Qu’est-ce que ces noms ont en commun ?

Correction :
Ce sont des noms indénombrables pluriels. Ils sont donc toujours suivis du pluriel :
My trousers are too tight : mon pantalon est trop serré.
Pour renvoyer à l’unité, l’on a recours en a) à des dénombreurs comme a pair of : a
pair of trousers, a pair of glasses ; the pair of glasses I bought is rather expensive.
En (b) en revanche, il est très difficile de dénombrer. L’on peut dans certains cas
utiliser « a part of »: A part of the archives was destroyed during the great fire of
London.
B. Qu’est-ce que ces noms ont en commun ?
Linguistics, acoustics, gymnastics, politics,
