I wonder if the tennis ball could shoot up in the universe.

I hear the strings of my racket vibrate.

I see the ball soaring through the sky.

My Name:

My name Isabel comes from the Hebrew name “ Elisheva” and the latin name “ Helizabeth”. It first appeared in the medieval provence as Elisabel. Isabel also symbolizes John the Baptist’s mother and is a romance language given name in movies and books. My second name Marie was given to me because we are catholic and Marie in the bible is Jesus’ mother. My surname Cope means to manage, to be able to. The surname comes from Scottish descendants on my Dad’s side. Issy is the nickname my family and friends use for me.

Through my research of names I learnt that some names mean something, some don’t, but that most of them at least have an origin. I also was informed about the fact that there were four main ways that surname’s were given:

Patronymic: For example the son gets the father’s name but with “son” immediately at the end. For example: Peter (son).

Place names: For example: Hill, Lake, and Wood

Occupational names: Names that shows what a person did for a living. For example: Miller, Butler and Baker.

Nicknames: Usually based on a person’s personality or characteristics. For example: Short, Long and Savage.

Learning to talk:

After I had picked up the sounds, my mum and dad told me the noun that collaborated with the sound. (I.e.: moo = cow). I associated the sound and the noun and learnt them together. That was how I learnt how to talk. Both my parents are English, so I learned English at home with family whereas French was instructed to me at school form maternelle 1 until now. As I speak English and French and go to an International School, hearing and listening to many of people speaking different languages, overall for me learning languages now is quite easy.

Accents:

An accent is a particular mode of pronunciation. For example Australians, South Africans and Americans speak English but with a different accent from the British. (This is the point of view of someone speaking British). Accents can also be heard in different countries and counties. An example in England Southampton – Essex have very different accents. There are many more examples. I lived in France since I was six months old so I can’t clearly remember if when I could talk, the French language influenced my English. Even now, I do not think French influences my English. However, as both of my parents are English and not French I speak English at home, so some people tell me I have a slight English accent when I speak French. Towards different accents I feel
