Article on Elon Musk

The articole that i chose to present today is entitled “Elon Musk Takes Aim at Italy, and Its President Hits Back”

It was published on November 13 2024 by the newyorktimes, an American newspaper who is generally considered to have a center left orientation

As we can understand from the title this article has as main theme Italy’s politic and it is about Elon Musk,the ceo of tesla and space x,who has publicly criticized the Italian government by posting on his social network X the following quote:”these judges need to go” 

This quote is a criticism of  the Italian court rulings that blocked a government plan to process and send migrants to Albania in order to manage and avoid overcrowding in Italy. These migrant’s situation falls under international and European laws that govern the treatment of asylum seekers and refugeees. According to these laws individuals fleeing persecution,war,or human rights abuses have the right to seek protection  in another country. Initially, the Italian government had reached an agreement with Albania to handle these migrants, however Italian judges ruled that Albania wasn’t a safe enough place for them and their human rights due to issues like protection of minorities , corrumptions , which are factors that can’t be ignored and which led the Italian court  to block this plan."This decision went against the government’s plans and caused tension between the executive and judicial branches."

Musk disagreed this decision and as someone who frequently comments on political issues, the day after his initial comment,on Wednesday he posted again on his platform,expanding his criticism by calling the situation “unacceptable” and questioning the italian democracy, asking “ Do the people of Italy live in a democracy or does an unelected autocracy make the decisions?”

For sure this is not the first time that we see musk using twitter now X as a means to express his political ideas and criticizes the others ones , ,it’s not something new,however his serious accusations and comments on  the Italian government didn’t go unnoticed

After Musk’s comments,the Italian president Sergio Mattarella responded by defending the Italian  democratic process. He didn’t name Musk directly but it was clear that he was referring to him. Mattarella emphasized that Itay is a sovereign country and should be respected, especially by foreign individuals in influential positions. “Italy knows how to take care of itself in compliance with its constitution”

The Italian prime minister has made no comment as the court’s decition aroused her anger, it is clear that she agrees with musk as they are aligned in anti-migrations plans. Musk is a supporter of Giorgia meloni and went to rome on several occasions, the photos of the two have made such news that the billionaire had to specify "we are not dating"                                                                                        

Elon musk later reposted a tweet explaining that his erlier comments about Italian judges were simply his personal opinion and not a call to action.However the ethical question raised by musk comments is whether influential individuals should comment on the domestic policies of other countries

I thought it was current more interesting  as we find musk that we have already faced talking about the...

I believe that despite the freedom of opinion, such influential people should not express themselves so openly
