5G is the fifth generation of wireless communication technology, which, according to mobile phone operator Orange, is "designed to meet the very high growth in data and connectivity in modern society. "This new technology offers impressive data exchange and storage capacities and virtually unlimited call volumes. To achieve this, 5G uses an untapped millimetre wave , bandwidth of between 30 and 300 GHz, as well as some low and medium frequencies. But opinions are extremely mixed.  We will therefore see what are the positive and negative impacts of the 5g.

What are the positive impacts ?

The 5g has a lot of interest in a company, indeed, 5G technology allows a strong reduction in energy consumption, increased throughput, improved connectivity, optimisation of remote work, extension of the life of the devices. In short, an enormous gain in productivity for the company.

Unmatched speed and massive connectivity, the benefits of 5G are far-reaching for both companies and consumers. Speed is 5G's greatest asset. For example, a 5G user can download a movie to his mobile device in less than a second. 5G also provides improved connectivity capability. This means that several 5G users can be connected at the same time without impacting the connection speed.

What are the negative impacts of 5g ?

5G Environmental Concerns, it’s possible that 5G may affect weather satellite observations. This may impact the quality of weather forecasts. 5G will use frequencies close to those used for weather forecasting. Weather forecasts are based on observations received from satellites, which may cause interference. The satellites will therefore send readings that may result from 5G interference instead of a natural phenomenon. This may impact the quality of the information and reduce the reliability of weather forecasts.

The dangers of 5G on our health, the 5G network may have health repercussions and this is causing some reluctance because of the electromagnetic waves and an impact on the environment in view of the number of 5G antennas that will have to be deployed. 5G is as worrisome as it’s fascinating, since it will increase exposure to electromagnetic fields, which will therefore scatter millimetre waves. These waves can have harmful effects on health (Neurological disorders, cellular stress, risk of cancer).

Have a phone compatible with the 5G network, smartphones will have to be compatible with 5G, as was the case for 4G after its launch. 5G smartphones are therefore available in countries that have already launched the 5G network. We need to buy a new 5G compatible phone in order to take advantage of the benefits.

In conclusion, 5G is a great advance and like any great advance there are positive and negative points. But we can ask ourselves, is it really worth it? Or is it just marketing to make us consume more ? Having 5g is not something you need and you can do without it, seeing all the effects on your body. 5G can have both negative and positive effects and I personally would not opt for 5G.
