Ruby Bridges

It happens when segregation, was a woman who was born September 8, 1954 in Tylertown Mississippi. American woman famous for segregation since it is the first black child to build a school for white children.

First, I talked about or all began, and secondly how she survived to this opposition of white and black. Why is she a symbol ?

Firstly, Ruby Bridges moved with his parents to New Orleans, Louisiana. She is 6 years old in 1960 when its parents received a call from the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). They accept that their daughter participates in the integration of the new system in place to the new Miss Orleans and became the first black child to go to the William Frantz Elementary School and the first African-American child attended a white school in Louisiana.

After, Because of the opposition of whites to integrate blacks, she needed protection to go to school, but local police officers and state refusing to protect it; «Marshall» federal accompanied it.

His mother had told him he "could there be in the world to this new school". Apart from this, we had not warned of racist she had to face to get to.

As she describes it, "the car, I could see the crowd, but since I was living in New Orleans, I thought it was Mardi Gras. There was a large crowd of people near the school. She screamed and threw things at me, but this kind of thing happened in New Orleans at Mardi gras. "

When Ruby came to school, white parents took their children away. All teachers, except a white teacher, also refused to make over whether there was a black child in school. Only Barbara Henry, who was from Boston, Massachusetts, agreed to do the course in Ruby. For a year, Ms. Henry then taught only to Ruby, "as if she was teaching a whole class."

The family of Ruby suffered great consequences of its decision to send her to this school. His father lost his job and his grandparents are farmers evicted from their land.

To conclude Ruby Bridges today still lives in New Orleans. It is now the representative for the Ruby Bridges Foundation, founded in 1999 to promote "the values of tolerance, respect and appreciation of differences." Describing the mission of this association, she said, "Racism is a major disease".

Ruby Bridges continued to be a symbol for the October 27, 2006, the City of Alameda, California, opened an elementary school named Ruby Bridges and made a statement in his honor, a film was released "the combat Ruby Bridges".

I think Ruby Bridges is a brave strong woman who proved that she was in and that he should not, there be differences between white and black.

For me I think this woman will remain an example for countries where communities that are invade by racist because it knew at the time of segregation showed stronger and passed over white attacks.
