Sports and Education in America

It’s simple to understand why America is a fascinating country when you decide to watch a Super Bowl or a NBA Finals. It’s in those moments when you realize how American people does things bigger than it should be. I choose to talk about sports in America because it’s the most accessible side about America, everyone can watch an NBA game wherever he is.

Sport in the United States has a very important place in society. From elementary school to university, young people are encouraged to practice their sport. Meetings between High Schools can reach crazy crowds, and some academic matches displace nearly 100,000 supporters. The media snatched the matches, the matches were broadcast on television or even better on the Internet. The stadiums are filled, athletes encouraged and recognized, whether it is in men or women, being a sportsman is a huge asset in America.

Unlike France or most countries around the world, the United States integrates sport and athlete training at the heart of their education system by giving it a considerable place. The athletes from each university sports program come from all over the world.

University sport in the United States is as important as professional sport, because sport in high school and university is the only way for a sportsman to be a professional. Now in the end of June, it’s the “Drafts” period, where NBA teams are presenting their new players coming from high schools and universities, and it’s a big event in America .

Financially speaking, he financial resources allowed to sports are incredible, the infrastructures are as good as a professional teams, sometimes better than any other team in some countries, training centers and technical staffs are equivalent to professional clubs.

Universities play the role of training centers with the considerable advantage of offering an internationally renowned degree at the exit. University sport is the link between young athletes and professional clubs.

This system allows to have a high-level sportsmen, as an athletes and as human-beings, Education gives them all what they need to blossom in the society and to be a good personage in the media sphere. It’s simple to distinguish an interview with an American athlete and another athlete in Europe or anywhere else.

This system deletes the dilemma of choosing between education or sports, because in many countries, teens at a certain age (16 or 17 years old), have to choose either they should continue their education and skip sports, or to be fully dedicated to sports and let down the education. And Many of them, had finally not succeeded in sports, and found themselves 5 years later without a diploma.

Sports in America is a good model that other countries should follow, certainly it needs huge resources, but it’s not only the state who should provide money, schools could look for sponsors and other sources of revenue to develop sports in a local zone at first, and then, other schools and universities will follow.
