MYTHS AND HERO

  1. Introduction

We are going to deal with the notion « myths and hero ». To start with first and foremost, it is paramount to give a definition. First of all, we have to define these two concepts.  The word myth derives from the ancient Greek word mythos which means legend, but nowadays we use this word much more loosely, referring to a traditional story concerning the history of a people, a natural or social phenomenon. The word hero also has Greek roots and meant “demi-god”, a person with superhuman abilities accomplishing extraordinary achievements. The definition has evolved and now refers to a person who is admired for his courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. In relation the notion, the subject of my presentation will be heroes. We may wonder to what extent how they became heroes. To answer this question, I will present 3 heroes, the first being firefighters, Mahatma Gandhi and finally Nitin Sawhney.

  1. Development

There are heroes who never make the headlines in the newspaper, indeed, journalists don't talk about them nevertheless they deserve all the respect and the admiration of the population. I think that is the case of concerning the firemen, I admire them because they prove themselves capable of acts of bravery, and, they also save people and come to the aid of people in difficulties, even putting their lives at risk. They are called out at any times. They dedicate their lives to others, to rescuing people, who no necessarily bear attention to firemen. They lead a difficult fight against the consuming monster that is the fire. Above all, their generosity is unbounded, limitless. On other hand, this qualified persons are as courageous as French doctors or people working in any relief organisation. The physic but also mental strength is necessary because scene are insufferable emotionally. The responsibilities of this profession are very important. To conclude, from my point of view, being a fireman is a profession that defines respect and whose the acts must be known by population and most publicized.

I will speak about Mahatma Gandhi who is the most famous character of the India’s history. Mahatma Gandhi was born in Porbandar, in India, in eighteen sixty-nine. His family was relatively wealthy. They were Hindu, but they were very tolerant of other religions. Gandhi got married at fourteen years old, with Kasturbai, who will remain his wife all his life. In eighteen eighty-eight, he went to England to study law. After three years in England, and his law degree in hand, Gandhi returned to India. Then he went to South Africa for trial; it was the revelation of his life. He was confronted with racial discrimination. Thereafter, he fought all his life without violence for racial equality, and peace in the world. He was jailed several times by the British, as he struggled for the independence of India. Through his efforts, in nineteen forty-seven, India and Pakistan became independent, but he was not for the partition of India into two countries. In nineteen forty-height, he was killed by Nathuram Godse, who held Gandhi responsible for the partition and weakening of India. This was hero of India, a man who fought all his life for peace and truth, respect for all religions, and the equality of men. Thanks to him, India is free today.
