IDEA OF PROGRESS.

Présentation de la notion:

The notion I’m going to talk is Idea of progress. To illustrate this notion I am going to speak progress there was in the world. This progress we take forward the life (it became easier and better)

Définition :

Something which is created (is improved or evolves) to make people’s life better (easier).

Arrival of new technologies (computer, medicine, robots, Smartphone, TV, driverless cars).

Work can be done faster, with more efficiency.

Positive and negative aspect in progress.

Social progress (women’s rights).

Science and medical progress.

Progrès technologique:

There was a lot of technological progress in the world:

The telephone which it is developed a lot because now thanks to our smartphone we can all make.

The computer which facilitates works it because we can work faster. Another invention arrives with the computer it is internet.

Progrès médicaux:

There was a lot of medical progress. For example there is much more hygiene because many patient would die because of it shacks of cleanliness.

High-performance machines allow us to detect diseases who allow to reducing the mortality rate.

Progrès sociaux:

Education, employment, equality, family life.

Women's rights, human rights, minority rights.

The idea of liberty, freedom, democracy.

Télécommunication:

Advantage :(for employers)

As the employees feel less stressed they may be more productive.

Employers do not have to pay for public transport, they need less office space, they don’t have to cope with sick leaves.

Disadvantage:(for employers)

They cannot keep an eye on their employees, they can’t control the working methods, they may fear leak, they can’t create a team spirit or a corporate identity, they can’t encourage common activities to stimulate growth, research and development.

For the telecommuting:

You can organize your life as suits you.

You are your own boss.

You work in a peaceful atmosphere.

There are no personal conflicts.

You can take your time.

You do not have to dress up.

You do not have to use public transport.

You can spend time with your family.

You can have a break when you want.

Against the telecommuting:

You can’t socialize.

You may find it hard to set to work.

Home is no more a shelter.

You may work late at night because during the day you can’t work and take care of your children at the same time.

Teleworking means being lonely and working without anybody’s help.

You can’t have a casual chat with your colleagues.

You can’t share ideas, opinions or methods.

You may spend more time working than if you were at the office.

You are note in a working environment and you may have too many distractions
