States "Shall Issue": Florida and Georgia

In this case, a permit is required, issued under certain conditions:

• Have a minimum age (often 21 years)

• Be a resident of the State

States "May Issue": California and New York

A permit is required, but it is issued by the local authority (sheriff or police)

No issue: Illinois and District of Columbia

Very few permits are issued there.

Kentucky: 4.3 million inhabitants and 5.8 million weapons!

New Jersey: 8.8 million inhabitants and 134 000 weapons!

While there is more death in New Jersey at Kentucky!

ARGUMENTS "PRO GUNS"

  • The sacredness of the second amendment of the Constitution

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees to every American citizen the right to bear arms. It is one of ten amendments passed December 15, 1791, commonly called "Declaration of Rights ».

« A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. »

The second amendment of the US Constitution is the foundation of the defense of carrying weapons. It was dedicated by the Heller decision (2008) of the Supreme Court of the United States.

It’s a freedom guaranteed by the law,  that we can’t logically deny, like freedom of expression ...

So it potentially makes any regulation of carrying weapons unconstitutional.

  • The historical and cultural argument (+ PHOTOS)

The carrying of weapons is part of the DNA of the United States. The sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, the English crown forbade the American colonists to arm themselves in order to avoid any risk of rebellion. "At the time of the War of Independence, the colonists created militias have become the army of the United States.They remained in place today as the "National Guard of States. » The firearm is celebrated as a cultural object, at fairs or exhibitions devoted to arms, organized every year.

One of the first arguments that can be used for weapons is that they provide an undeniable protection in case of aggression and therefore allow to defend himself.

This is also one of the first Americans uses, when we know that some people sleep with a loaded gun on their pillow.

For Americans, a weapon is necessary for their security and therefore is part of the furniture. 

Owning a gun means the right to take the law into one’s own hands ( but it’s an illusion of safety ).

The weapons are part of the American culture and this since the days of the pioneers, in fact, at this time, they used their firearms to scare the Indians wanting to attack them or to scare away wild animals. The use of guns dates back to the colonization era and the right to bear arms is deeply rooted in American customs ( it was the heritage of the Wild West ).
