1) Hello sir, I am in New york for three days. I am the father of two girls aged 10 and 12, and I have a young boy who is three.

My wife and I are here with our family so we would like do family activities.

  • Of course ! First of all, I suggest you to take a lunch in Central Park. You can eat at the restaurant Tavern On the Green. It's the Central Park's historic restaurant. It opened in the 1930's, and its philosophy is: an elegant menu but affordable for New Yorkers. Thus it's American cooking and all the menus are around 20$.

Furthermore, during the first years after its creation, the head chef added new desserts for special events. For example the "Parfait Ruth" is to honor the birth of his granddaughter.

2) okay, but are there other things to do in this park? Indeed it's difficult to retain children long time in a restaurant, but ideally we don't want to walk a lot.

-I understand, you have a little zoo and a carousel in the Park.

After that, for another day, you can visit the St Patrick cathedral. It's the tallest cathedral of North America with 100.6 meters height. Inside you can admire 3700 stained glass, and the replica of the Michelangelo's Pieta, but three times larger.

3) In fact I have booked a room in a hotel in Brooklyn. Considering that we have only three days here, are you sure that it is worth visiting the cathedral?  I am wondering if it is very judicious to cross all New York every day.

-I see well that you don't know New York. It's the city with the best transport network that you could  think of. With the subway there is no doubt that it's not a problem to move.

4) With all due respect, circulating with a stroller is too complicated in the subway.

-In case you prefer, you can also take a taxi or the tramway.

5) Sir, you cutting corners, the tramway will be the same issue, and the taxi, it's not adapted, due to traffic jams and to a big total cost over the three days !

-No pain, no gain! But okay, let's look at what you can do around Brooklyn.

6) I saw that there is the South Street Seaport, the historical port which has preserved to a large  extent its old paved ground and commercial buildings dating of the XIX century.

-Yes, and also old sailboats dating from this time and that moor here.

It's really a unique neighborhood.

It's a good idea.

7) Then, I heard mention of East Village.

I believe that it used to be the heart of the punk culture. Nowadays, I heard that people go to tattoo shops during the day, to vintage stores, or to coffee places. It can be fun to spend some hours there no ?

-Yes of course, I would not recommend to stay there at night. There are many clubs and consequently disreputable people.

Local housing is made of bricks, and most houses get covered by graffiti. On another note, Lady Gaga lived in this district before she became famous.

7) Great ! My daughter loves her!

After that, it is not possible to go to New York without visiting the Statue of Liberty.

There is no elevator so it can be difficult with the little child, and you must reserved tickets several months in advance if you want to climb in the crown.
