Topic 1- The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is situated in New York and more exactly on Liberty Island.

France gave the Statue of Liberty to America as a sign of friendship in 1886. His creators are Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (for design and for made the copper statue) and Gustave Eiffel for design of the framework). It was built in France and assembled in USA.

The statue is 46 meters high and sits on a base that is 47 meters high.

She is composite with four principal elements:

  • The Torch in right hand is 13 meters long, is a sign of freedom. At night, she’s illuminated, so we can see her by far. The flame is covered in gold!

  • The crown on the head of the statue has 7 spikes for represent the seven seas and the seven continents. The head of the statue is 5 meters high.

  • The tablet, she represents knowledge. On this tablet is registered an important date, the date or America declares the independence of Britain.
  • The broken chain at the feet of the statue has allusion of Libertas, the roman goddess of freedom and symbolizes the wish of the USA to be free from oppression.

For visit the statue is free but you need buy a ticket for ferry transportation beside the official ferry company of the Statue of Liberty, “statue Cruises”.

Thousands of people visit the statue every day.

I choose this topic because I would like to visit the Statue of Liberty, she is the most famous monument in the world and she is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.

I would like also to be able to admire the view which we have of New York at the top of the statue.

It has to be an only experience of which one remembers for a long time!
