Intro :

Today, we are going du talk about a web article written by Gregory Krieg on February the 8th, a journalist of CNN.

It is about, the Socio-democrat representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She is a member of The Congress since November 2018.

So, the Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government which is introduced by the first article of the American constitution. The congress is made of The House of representatives and the Senate; therefore it is a bicameral body.

Who is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? what is its role in American political life ?

So firstly, Albane is going to present you the early life of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Secondly, I will try to explain the way she came into politics.

So, Alexandria was known to be the “primary opponent” of Joe Crowley’s during the election of Congressional District of November 2018. Youngest woman of the Congress, she has an atypical background.

In fact, she was born on the 13 October of 1989 in the Bronx, she is currently 29 years old. Her parents came from the popular class and they are Puerto Ricans. Her father was born in the South Bronx and he died in 2008 and her mother was born in Porto Rico. She studied in Boston university and her parents put all their savings into making her a good education.

Alexandria is started working in politics when she was very young. In fact, when she was in Boston university, she was working for a Sen Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. In the text, we can see that Ted Kennedy was compared to a “lion” and he is a liberal man.

After the university, Alexandria had got some financial difficulties, so she worked in a restaurant in order to help her family to survive.

However, she never abandoned gave up political life. Indeed, during the presidential season in 2016, she was an organizer for Sen Bernie Sanders who participated in the Democratic primary, but he lost against Hillary Clinton. Gradually, she became a member of the political game and in 2017, she decided to be an opponent of Joe Crowley. She is a socio-democrat and she founded a movement which called Brand New Congress. It is a way to insert new candidates in the next election.  

In the Media, Alexandria is often reduced to an opponent of Joe Crowley and not as an important political member. The media didn’t used her name before she was elected. In fact, she tweeted “A girl Has No Name: Headlines from The Political Patriarchy”.
