Dear Diary,

I do feel terrible!

I feel like living in a nightmare. This doesn’t seem like reality anymore. The villagers are becoming mad.

I have just talked with my uncle, Reverend Parris.

I told him to speak to the villagers in order to calm things down.

I thought that it would settle the problem.

But my uncle said that he needed the truth before confronting his ennemies.

Indeed, many persons want his job, and would be very satisfied to dismiss him.

He looked so pale, and depressed. How I pity him!

I know that his back is against the wall so I told him the truth.

But I am not sure that it will really help.

And Betty ! she looks like she’s dead. She has been sleeping for 2 days now and she won’t wake up! I would never forgive myself if she were to die.

How I wish we didn’t go in the forest

We just wanted to have fun

Life is so boring here.

All you do is praying and working.

You can’t have a boyfriend, you can’t celebrate Christmas, you can’t dance. How I hate this village and those stupid people !

But I will not be accused of witchcraft. I will not be hanged.

I will find a culprit, for example, Tituba who is just a nigger, a slave, that is not trusted. Yes, I will hold her responsible for all of it. Let her pay for it ! And Betty, uncle and I will be saved.
