Hello, today I speak about the experiences and facts that led me to fight to help Indian women and many countries to take their independence and represented a force for change in their country.

In India, child marriage is commonplace and regular, many girls are affected by this. Indeed, many witnesses have denounced these marriages and the fate of married children by expressing their feelings. Take the example of Poormina victim of these forced marriages, she is surrounded by many women who dress her with rich fabrics and jewelry, the drape of saris and traditional bangles. Poormina seems belittled and downtrodden as well as lost, she is powerless in the face of this event. Little girls are powerless and can do nothing, they can only accept their situation, but we can change things and fight for the freedom and independence of these children. This type of marriage does not happen only in India but in many countries.

Another example, in the United States child marriage is legal, more than 200,000 minors married between 2000 and 2015. For example, Angel McGehee was forced to marry at the age of 13 and she had her first child at 15, her husband was very violent, she said « I felt like a slave ». Today Angel is 25 years old, she has 5 children, 2 with her new husband. Forced marriage destroys lives and endangers thousands of women around the world, fight against inequality !

In India, Aqui Thami, a 29-year-old Indian resident, decides to change things and help girls through knowledge sharing so that it beats for their independence and their own choices. She opened India’s first feminist community library: Sisters Library, she says « create a place where women can come together and organize to break this evil thing called patriarchy ». With 600 women’s literary works, Aqui says that the initiative allows young women and men to challenge the current social situation and change the future and fate of many girls around the world. By supporting these initiatives and encouraging their development, together we can reduce inequalities between men and women and restore freedom to all these girls.

Fortunately many women like Fraidy Reiss fight against these human rights violations, thus forcing girls to become adults.

Poormina remains silent so what is dressed and scolded by her aunt, she nods her head when she receives advice that tells her how to behave with the mother of the bride.
