Hello, today I’m going to talk to you about the evolution of golf and more specifically about the equipment that has evolved since the creation of this sport. In fact, golf has developed and evolved at the same time as the equipment. In the past, clubs were much longer and flatter than the ones we use today.Also, materials they used marked an important evolution, the first clubs were made in hazelnut wood.Golf ball have also changed a lot over time. In fact, First balls were wooden ball in 1400, follow be feather ball in 1500, and gutta percha ball in 1848, to arrive at the modern rubber ball in the 19th century.

Since the beginning of the century, essential research has focused on the velocity, the use of elastic materials, number and shape of cells.

Today, very diverse balls are offered for sale : one piece, two pieces, three pieces, four pieces depending of the quality.

Let’s now look at the evolution of swing.

It was the great player Harry Vardon who, at the beginning of this century, unified the many methods that proliferated in England. It can be considered as the historical father of golf swing.

We played with wood shaft until 1930, when the steel shaft appeared. Their use was generalized around 1935. During this period, no player managed to dominate the others.

The first player mastered the steel handles was Byton Nelson, who won between 1936 and 1946 by developing a swing resolutely modern. However, two new revolutions appeared in the material during the 1980s and 1990s : on one hand the appearance of metal heads and on the other hand appearance of graphite shaft . At the end of the 20th century, titanium club head start to be used by players that allow them to be more regular.

Closer to now, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus elected player of the 20th century, Tom Watson and now Tiger Woods continue on this way and revolutionized the world of golf making this sport more attractive.With a technique that has not changed much in the last 40 years.

Now, we can talk about women and golf. At the time, women could not have access to the clubhouse but because of the importance of the competitions, the leaders decided to make an exception to their regulations. So access to the club for ceremonies was allowed to women. This is the beginning of the entry of women in the world of golf. That is how the sentence “Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden” was rejected.Later, Ladies Professional Golf Association call LPGA was created in 1950 and marked a turning point in women’s golf.

Finally, Technology has evolved so much in the last few years that some players manage to make this kind of shot. Referees and ball makers notably took the decision to change the composition of the balls to limit the distance and to make this sport fairer.
