Lettre au frère

My dear brother,

How are you? Everything is right in Cambridge? I write to you to explain an adventure that happened to me yesterday. Mrs Anderson, the wife of the lieutenant, was killed just next to me. It was so terrible. I am so shocked.

I was walking in the street last Thursday, it was a nice evening. The street was lighted by the brilliant moonlight. I was on my way home from the movies. First, I saw a woman waiting for the bus on Third and Helm, you know, next to the old paint factory. I did not recognize Mrs Anderson, I was too far. Then, the mugger came out of the shadows. He grabbed the lady around the throat. She tried to defend herself but the man was too strong for her and he dropped her on the floor of the side-walk. He stabbed her shouting: “Quiet, you bitch”. After the poor woman died, the murderer turned his eyes to me with a butcher light in his eyes. I try to run away but the mugger was too fast, it was too late, I was sure he killed me. But he did not. He was there, face to face, I was so terrified that I can’t move. And suddenly, he ran up the street.

I came home as soon as possible and I locked the door. I told my story to Marguerite and I decided I will come to the police station next day to explain what I saw. I did not sleep this night.

In the morning I came to the station. I wanted to speak only with the lieutenant Anderson. But he was occupied when I arrived and I began to explain what I saw to another police man. He asks me if I can recognize the murderer and I answered him: yes. But I was afraid of the fact that the mugger can recognize me too. Then the lieutenant entered in the room I looked at him and I understood. The murderer was the lieutenant Anderson! I escaped from the police station and I immediately came home.

I know that the lieutenant recognize me and he can find me and kill me. I am so worried and I think I want to live far away from this city. I am waiting for your tips.
