Similarly, the Aboriginal play a vital role in Australia’s formative history and cultural identity. After the European settlement in 1788, the land of Australia became the territory of the British. Aborigines land rights, were stripped off. They suffered enormously from death, disease, displacement, traditional lifestyle and ritual disrupted. The children who were forcibly removed during that period are known as the stolen generation. Many grew up confused about their identities and were deprived of love, care and education. Most of the children experienced physical, sexual and emotional forms of abuse. An official apologize to the stolen generation did not exist until 2008, when the Prime Minister Kevin Rud apologized on behalf of the Australian government. Nowadays, the aboriginal of Australia and first people in Canada, face some similar difficulties including homelessness, poverty or unemployment and its impact on their health. They also still face racism, discrimination and violence.
