The legend of the Kelpie
In Scotland there are many terrifying myths and legends, but the legend of the kelpie is one of the most popular and scary. If you want to take a walk in Scotland be careful because there is a dangerous creature that roams the lost lochs and rivers. It's the Kelpie a fairy spirit taking the form of a black horse or a white pony. It lures its unsuspecting victims to the water to mercilessly drown them.
The secret to tame the kelpie is to put a bridle on him. Then the horse will be under your command. But, if you ride this supernatural beast without its bridle, he become out of control and takes you to the bottom of the water. There are many stories about the kelpie but the story of Douglas buchin is very creepy, so here she is :
Douglas Buchin knew that the beast was roaming along the loch Lomond. So, one day he decided to tame it. Discreetly, he approached and before the horse could react he grapped his muzzle, put the bridle and jumped on his back. The kelpie was very strong and the ambitious farmer wanted to build a great manor so he decided to use him to pull heavy stones. Douglas said to his workers to never take away the bridle of the beast. But after years and years what had to happen finally happened. One day, a young woman wanted to help the horse to eat so she took away the bridle of the horse.
Suddenly, he made a bloodcurdling sound and he prononced the following curse : "all the stones he had brought would return to the earth and nothing could never be built here". And instantly the mansion fell into ruins. The moral is to be too pretentious, Douglas Buchin had only managed to be unhappy.
