This year, we studied the notion of the idea of progress.

The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change, a technical, a scientific or social advance which contributes to make the world a better place.

Today , it's about medical progress , genetic engineering .

To what extent is genetic engineering a progress ?

I have chosen a document dealing with scientific progress : genetic engineering and the manipulation of genes and DNA.

The document is a cartoon. The scene takes place in a factory. There are five clones on a coveyar belt. They look strong except the third one who is small and skinny. Unlike the other clones, the reject is blond-haired. The clones are wearing black shorts whereas the reject is wearing pink underwear. It looks ridiculous. The reject is caught and trapped in a big bin where we can read « Clones are US ».It makes us think of « Toys are US ». In this bin we can see some rejects with three eyes or six toes. Clones are mass products like toys.

The drawback would be that clones would be alike. Different people would be rejected. They would be discriminated. It seems to me that this world is a dystopia because man's life is controlled by technology in this imaginary place.

Moreover, I think this cartoon is both funny and thought-provoking because first it makes us laugh but then it makes us think about life in a world of clones. Maybe this represents our future.

I have a second document whose name is "my sister keeper". It's a movie adapted from the novel . The story is about two sisters kate and anna fitzgerald. Anna is the older and she suffers from cancer whereas the younger one, anna, was engineered to save her sister's life.

Is this document the scene takes place in a lawyer's office. Anna comes to see this lawyer becauses she has rebelled against her parents. They want her to donate a kidney to her sister but now, Anna wants to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.

Anna is fed up with the situation because she has already donated lots of organs, and she doesn't want to continue but she knows her sister will die if she doesn't.

this extract underlines the fact that it's not easy to be a medicine baby. It means that your life a depends on the disease of a sick person. Medicine babie don't have a private life. They don't decide of their life. They must have operations according the need of the sick person they must save.

to conclude , I thinks that genetic engineering has some drawback , but it's great because he could save a lot of life , allows people to survive and make a world a better place .

I think life is a gift and everybody in the world should have the opportunity to live their life.
