GOOGLE’S APPROACH

Google strikes a balance between global and local practices in order to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation. It exercises global control and standardisation. However, when it comes to day-to-day management, it adapts management practices to local culture leading to employee satisfaction and good labour relations. Adapting to cultural norms, Google ensures effective employee behaviour and performance management.

ETHICS AND GOOGLE

Google follows the ethical absolutism approach. "Don't be evil" is the informal corporate motto of Google. Google believes strongly that in the long term, it will be better served — as shareholders and in all other ways — by a company that does good things for the world even if it forgot some short term gains. While many companies have ethical codes that govern their conduct in contract, Google claims to have made "Don't Be Evil" a central pillar of their identity as part of their self-proclaimed core values. The words: "Don't be evil" form part of the sixth point in their Core Values, and in full states: "Do the right thing: don't be evil. Honesty and Integrity in all googlers do. Google business practices are beyond reproach. It makes money by doing good things.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT STYLE

According to Fortune and All Business magazines, Google is the fourth-most admired company in the United States. Google was also listed as the top company to work for in both 2010 and 2011. The main reason for this employee admiration is Google's cross-functional organisational structure, which the company maintains though stellar leadership and innovative management techniques. It has a participative management style, and follows a bottom-top approach.

• Additionally , the manager should let his followers own the problem he wants them to solve , to make them more responsible and more engaged in their work .
