This document is a cartoon by Steve Greenberg which was published in 2008, probably / most likely on the occasion of the election of Barack Obama as president of the USA.

We can see a history book with many black and white photographs. It looks like an overview of African-American history since the various photographs represent the periods of slavery, segregation and the Civil Rights movement. Some photographs conjure up very dark moments in American history when Blacks were mistreated and oppressed as slaves or second-class citizens. There are also pictures of famous icons who led the struggle of black people in the 1950s and 1960s, such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.

Barack Obama is represented in colors and is springing out from the page, almost like a jack-in-a-box. His historic election as the first black president of the USA can be regarded as a new chapter in African-American history and epitomizes the opening a new era in post-racial America.
