Heroes

First of all, I think it is important to define the terms of the notion. A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon. From ancient Greek heroes to modern-day heroes depicted in movies, television and graphic novels, the public's desire for hero-worship remains very high. In this way we can wonder in what extend are myths and heroes necessary? To answer this question, we will first see how heroes are necessary to us on an individual scale and then in a second part we will see how heroes are necessary to make changes in our society.

I. Heroes are necessary in an individual scale

a) Role model

Heroes are very important to us on personal scale because we identify to them and used them as role model. We can for example use fictional heroes such as superheroes to be our role model. Heroes are strong, they are leaders and they’re brave.

b) They allow us to have better lives

Heroes are necessary to us because some of them help us to have better lives on a regular basic. Real life heroes such as firemen, doctors, nurses … work in the shadow to save us and to make our lives better, even though they don’t always get the recognition they deserve.

Transition: As we said, heroes can help us and are necessary to our well-being. They save us on a regular basic and can be role model to us. However, they are necessary for other reasons, that for me are much more important.

II. Heroes are necessary to make changes in our society

a) Heroes drives social and historical changes

Heroes are very much needed because historically speaking, some of them made big social or political changes in our society. For example, Rosa Parks or MLK helped the black community in the US during the Civil Right Movement and changed the way Black people are seen in the US. In some case, those heroes reach another level of recognition and are then considered as myth.

b) Mythical figures

A hero can turn into a mythical figure when he continuously stay in the people’s memory, from one generation to another. Those figures are usually universal have an exceptional destiny that allow them to become myths, legends. For example, Queen Elisabeth II is considered as
