In 1945 the first test of the atomic bomb was successful. US ,immediately considered the potential non-military benefits that could be derived from the American nuclear monopoly. They are the bases of the hard-power. In fact, before the 1940’s, United-States cultivated the isolationism, indeed they didn’t get involved in the international political relation. However this policy changes abruptly since 1941 with the attack of Pearl Harbor.

During the second World War, United-States, Britain and Soviet-Union were all engaged in scientific research to develop the atomic bomb. However only United-States had succeeded. Moreover they used it in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end quickly to the pacific war.

During the development of atomic bomb the President Roosevelt made the decision not to inform the Soviet-Union of the technological development.

By mind-1945 it was clear the Soviet-Union would enter into the war in the Pacific and could influence the fight. In doing so the United-States keep the aventage.

After the second World War United-States are atomic bomb monopoly. In the first decades of the Cold War US used only the idea of nuclear weapons usas a threat; they are in strong position. However by the mid 1960’s the threat of an atomic attack have lost all credibility. In fact, US launch the attack they expose themselves to one against blow of Soviet-Union.

At this point, United-States take part more and more intal international policy intervention. Is the start of the US military and policy interventionism with the Pacific war.

Summary

With the attack of Pearl Harbor in 1941 US use it nuclear weapons monopoly (hard power) to influence military and policy decision in the world. is the US interventionism.
