The ancestry groups in America:

This map represents the largest ancestry groups in America. The dark lines are the States and the small boxes inside the States are the counties.

Before he gets started, Mark underlines that origins depicted by colours aren’t the only ones but just the most represented and we have to pay attention to the density of cities, indeed, if there is a colour very present, it doesn’t mean that a lot of people live here compared to a less present colour but with a high density.

We can figure out the different ancestry groups thanks to the different colours. Each origin has one.

The light pink represents Mexicans and is mostly presents on the boarder which makes sense. Then, in the middle there are a lot of Germans (light blue) who came here during the world war two but as he said before not that many people live here. Then, there is an orange colour scattered all over the country. It is actually native Americans that we assigned here when immigrants took over the country. Yellow is for people who self-identified as Americans. They aren’t Native Americans but they just identified as having Americans ancestries. They don’t recognize themselves in any of these groups.

Mark adds that those different groups of origins aren’t only visible on paper but you can really feel it when you travel through the US. You can feel it in the food, in the culture, in the traditions, in the language, the business, sports and more.

That is why for all those reasons America is called a country of immigrants.
