Spaces and Reciprocity

Introduction

I will talk about the notion of spaces and reciprocity. First of all, I would to give a definition of this notion: exchanges are the fact of exchanging and spaces are the places where take place these exchanges. We studied in class the cultural exchanges between the various continents and more particularly the theme of travel. Now, we can put the following problem: What do you travel for? At first we can travel for opening on the world, then the school learning and at last the tourism in generally.

I Opening on the world

The phenomenon of the moment is to set after the A-levels or after a turning point of life, a gap year in another country to master a language and become soaked with its culture. This initiative is a real lesson of life. Besides cultivated the gapers, the gap year offers an independence. Without leaving for a year, the journey can also allow the travellers to become more fluent with the new language.  The Couch Surfing offers to people that accommodate travellers a “free of charge bed” to be able to share with them the culture of their country. There is also the Woofing for discover for free the daily culture of a farmer but it’s necessary to help him in his farm in exchange of an accommodation and free meals.

II School Learning

The journey can be a right way to combine the studies and the cultural learning. The most common example is Erasmus who allows the students to leave abroad studying. Beyond the prestige of certain certificate, there is a real adaptation to lifestyle and to the language. The learning of a foreign language in one very level opens many doors in the business world. We viewed Madeleine Monghan’s testimony which expressed us her own experience because she left Ireland her native country for Normandie, in France where she was able to be fluent in french and to study with the French methods.

III Tourism

However, the reason why people travel most, it’s the tourism. Indeed, today it’s a real pleasure to relax, to visit and to discover a foreign country. There are all inclusive resorts which propose journeys quite organized where the customer needs to prepare nothing. We can see pros as the fact that there are many activities and you don’t have to use your brain, but the live in community and the lake of freedom can be seen as cons. Finally, a new kind of tourism tend to develop, it’s disaster tourism, where we are going to visit shantytown or places of poverty in the world but it remains a practice similar to the voyeurism and serves to return some money to the organizers of these at least surprising excursions.

Conclusion

To conclude there are three reasons of the journey are the opening on the world, studies and the tourism. However, there are still some who can convince in journey as a new start in life. In my opinion, I love travel, I like making tourism but it’s has to remain an adventure and not an organized stay where we make nothing of its days to part go shopping, to eat and to sleep. Can be during my studies in History, I shall go to study other civilizations.
