The Japanese mafia is one of the world's largest criminal organisations. Better known as the Yakuza, its members are divided into several clans. The Yakuza are also major players on the Japanese economic and social scene. Today there are between 20,000 and 30,000 yakuza members. The yakuzas are mainly Japanese but also Korean; there are more men than women. They are mainly spread all over Japan but also in Korea and other parts of Asia such as China, but that's not all because there are also yakuza in the United States. The Japanese mafia would be the largest criminal organization in the world with as main activity the drug trafficking, the human trafficking, but also to kill and eliminate the various rival gangs. There is also a strong prostitution and video pornography network. The YAKUZAS are so powerful that they make the police fearful.
To be recruited by the yakuzas is not that easy, because the yakuzas recruit mainly family members, former prisoners and young people who are unemployed. On top of that, to prove that you like this yakuza family, you have to do a 6 month apprenticeship to become a yakuza.
You can recognize a yakuza thanks to the many tattoos they have, often dressed in a very chic suit with sunglasses and sometimes a hat on their head. The yakuza also don't all have 10 fingers because for each failed mission a yakuza has to cut off a finger which is why many yakuza don't have 10 fingers.
Today yakuza have a great influence in our culture all around us with many movies, book, video games, animation that refer to yakuza.
The yakuza have had a big impact in Japan at times because now for a Japanese person a simple tattoo can make life difficult in finding a job, a house, doing various activities can be refused because a tattoo can immediately refer to a yakuza. Moreover, it can impact tourism because some tourists will avoid certain places in Japan where certain groups of yakuzas live and thus avoid problems.

We will now talk about a book called Yakuza: Japan's Criminal Underworld

which are two authors who will directly investigate in Japan where the most yakuza are found to better understand their organizations.

The two authors, authentic investigative journalists, have conducted a rigorous investigation in Japan. Their book rises to the level of a historian's work: analysis of the deep origins of the mafia clans in the structure of medieval society, study of the key period for the establishment of the power of the yakuza: the American occupation after the defeat of 1945, presentations of the major clans and their activities...

In this book, we will better understand the functioning of the yakuzas, their organizations, but especially their crimes and the wickedness of the different actions of the yakuzas. Moreover, we will understand in this book the impact of the yakuzas in the world.
